The Go-To Company for Care Homes in Stoke on Trent

care homes stoke on trent

This post is a recommendation for a company my family has had experience with for many years. At least three of my elderly relatives from Stoke on Trent have resided at Safe Harbor care homes over the years. All have been very happy, so I thought the company could do with a review.

Two of my relatives stayed at New Park House and they love(d) it (sadly my grandpa passed away but my Mums cousin is still there). The second one stayed because the first gave such glowing reviews. Staff are pleasant and the whole place feels more like a vibrant, happy residential home rather than a place to ship off unwanted relatives.

My other relative began staying at the newer Haversham House more recently. I have visited both and they are lovely; nice touches all over the place like modern pictures on the walls and new matching furniture. I was part of the “scouting party” for this relative and other places had “that smell”, grotty furniture and carpets and dark rooms. Safe Harbor really seems to of thought things through, hence this glowing review.

The financing options for the elderly in care homes isn’t simple and I left that to others as it was complicated, but apparently Safe Harbor’s three home in the area are competitively priced. Apparently they have a fourth home on the way in Hanley in Stoke on Trent, according to the website. I shall be interested in visiting once open as there are a couple of family members who may require a care home in the not too distant future.

So that’s my little review of Safe Harbor. If you live in Staffordshire or Shropshire I highly recommend including all their homes when you visit a few for an elderly relative. I am sure you will be just as impressed as my family has been.

Why Perfecting English Grammar is Essential for Immigrants into Britain

Recently my long term fiancée and I decided to relocate back to Britain for the foreseeable future. I have enjoyed being a location independent online worker, more commonly known as a digital nomad. However, my parents aren’t getting any younger so we have decided to brave the cold for now.

Having worked and lived in Asia for the past 7 or so years, we have been able to survive on less than what is required in the UK. My parents are from Manchester, where prices are lower than London and other southern cities, but it is still a massive jump up in living costs. I was horrified on my last visit just to learn how much a pack of chewing gum now costs (I remember it being 12p, and was like 68p 2 years ago).

Therefore we decided that my Filipina partner would find work too. She has a little care experience, having been the premier carer for her father in his last months (quite a drawn out affair). A good friend of mine is the owner of a nursing home, so she was happy to apply for the job of care assistant.

There are no qualifications required and like many from the Philippines, she speaks excellent English. However her grammar is not perfect and she has an American accent. Therefore I found her an English school in Manchester where she could could perfect those grammatical mistakes and speak more like the residents. We choose Communicate School of English as it is very reasonably priced and looks like a really friendly place:

Best Bucket List Idea in South Thailand is Rock Climbing

best bucket list idea south thailand

For an adventurous bucket list idea, you will love rock climbing in Railay. It is located in the Krabi province of Thailand. This region is popular for having some of the best limestone climbing routes in Asia, if not the world. There are many options which range from novice walls to difficulty levels to thrill even the most experienced climbers.

What makes Railay such a great place to go climbing is the natural beauty of the region. The beaches can be stunning. You can wake up at dawn and go for an early morning climb, then lounge on the beach for the hottest part of the day, then hit the walls again when the sun starts to go down. When you have worked up a sweat, having a tropical sea to dive into is a godsend.

Best Bucket List Idea in Philippines is Swimming with Whale Sharks

donsol sunset in the philippines

Swimming with whale sharks is a popular bucket list idea. Whale sharks sound that little bit more thrilling compared to the cliched swimming with dolphins. These amazing creatures aren’t whales but they are sharks. And they are massive.

They swim very slowly and aren’t at all aggressive. It is quite safe to swim alongside them. I even saw our guide mistakenly jump into one’s mouth. He was fine because whale sharks only feed on very small sea life. Read more
